July 2009 - We´re done with the paperwork! After 22 months the visa is IN OUR PASSPORT. From filing the first document in September 2007 to the visa now in July 2009 – that is the trail we blazed to receive a permit for living and working in Canada.
As expected the visa expiry date is December 23rd, because the medical exam we took in 2008 is only valid for one year. It means we have to validate our visa before this date by entering into Canada. Maybe as immigrants on a one way fare, maybe as tourists on a round trip, depending on the sale of the house. A small, but fantastic detail: the visa was issued on July 9th – our wedding date.
Now starts the practical part of our immigration – saying goodbye and finishing things off. Selling the house is the most important step. Although putting it up for rent is an option as well, we´d rather sell it. And since we can´t predict the future, we now focus on:
- cancelling subscriptions
- asking price quotations from international movers
- gathering information from the tax office and social services office
- preparing forms for unsubscribing as a Dutch resident
- gathering information on how to bridge gaps in insurances
Certainly not the most exciting things, but necessary to immigrate well-prepared. And since we´re getting close to saying goodbye, we added a guestbook to this weblog (see right hand column at the top). We would appreciate it, if you leave us a message.
